ABCD Model
Using their notebooks, students will select and then list the vocabulary words they want to use for their story.
As a group, they will discuss what topic they would like to write their story on.
Each student will construct their own PowerPoint presentation, including an image they have produced.
The students will develop essential technology skills for using and understanding conventional and current tools, materials, and processes.
Individually, students will use a thesaurus to locate new words for their stories.
Everyone is to revise their part of the story using pages from the textbook or internet sites for help.
Day by Day Instructions
Monday: Today the students need to be put into groups, and choose a topic to write a story on. Once they decide, each student needs to spend at least 15 minutes looking through their notebooks for vocabulary words that they would like to use. They are all to watch the video example, embedded on the student activity page, as well as read the pages listed from their textbooks. If it does not all get completed in the 50 minutes today, they can finish tomorrow.
Tuesday: The students will be learning about technology today, and finishing up any work that was not completed yesterday. There will be a brief discussion based on technology and ways they can present their stories and take a look at the website 'How to Use Technology.' This should take no more than 15 minutes max. The students will be listening to a podcast today, to get a better understanding and more ideas for their story. The assignment is that each student needs to create a PowerPoint presentation (directions on student activity page). If they cannot all finish today, they can continue tomorrow for the first 15 minutes of class.
Wednesday: The students need to come to a group consensus today on how they want to create their story (i.e. PowerPoint, podcast, etc.), once they decide they need to have the group leader report to the teachers. This should take only up to 20 minutes tops. There is a link on the student activity page, which explains the writing process, the students should spent about 15 minutes going over this as a group. There is a link to a thesaurus worksheet, that each student needs to complete and then email it to my email.
Thursday: The students will be spending majority of the time putting together their stories and each group with spend up to 25 minutes on the computer, working on the final stages. The rest of the class time, they are to read the pages listed about grammatical errors and revising errors in their story.
Friday: Today the final product is due, students have up to 30 minutes in class to finish up revising their stories. Once this is complete, the students will be doing a fun activity, the link to the wordsearch is on the student activity page.
Evaluation
I will evaluate the students based on how they followed the directions and completed the assignments. For next time, I could probably have more types of related lessons and worksheets or videos to help the students better understand the assignment. However, overall this project went really well.
